The new food bar is the centerpiece of the place. They have a massive, all in one place selection for organic, fair trade, vegan and other ethically sourced foods, but the already great pick up and go food counter is now amazingly convenient and so much more modern now. I admit I don't come here as often as I might, but with a place to grab so much yummy vegan food on the good I'll be heading over more often.

This is one of those places that to me really helps to define East York. It can be used as a good model for a community-owned store elsewhere. The employees/owners here really seem like they're happy for the most part. Whoever is working behind the scenes here really cares about this establishment. There's a lot of stuff in here that you can't conveniently find elsewhere in Toronto. Most things are organic and there are lots of gluten-free and vegan options. I believe all the produce is organic. They have a wonderful kitchen that serves fresh food and is in the process of being upgraded to serve meats as well. There's a great bakery as well (their muffins are the best in the city). They have a whole little section of the store that sells cosmetics, creams, balms and the like. This is an especially hot spot for women who are mindful of what chemicals are in their skin products, but they have plenty of products for men too. Last but not least there's a community space on the roof which they use for growing food and it's really nice to up there when the weather is nice and sunny. If you're into health foods and the like, you'll be blown away the first time you visit.

One of the best supermarkets in Toronto for organic produce and clean products. Easily accessible via street car, subway, and they have onsite parking.

I love this little, healthy grocery store! As a vegetarian or vegan, you would find an incredible section of a variety of vegan cheese and deli alternatives here that you can't find in regular grocery stores. Also, their fresh food bar smells so good you get hungry every time you go here! LOL Prices are a bit on the expensive side but you can't find the same options cheaper anywhere else in Toronto, as far as I know.

One of my fave local health food stores. I’ve been shopping here for about 15 years. Their quality standards are so high, I feel better knowing that ingredients have been vetted. The meat, cheese and produce selection is fantastic (good variety). The staff in the wellness department are so knowledgeable and friendly, and again some of the best variety in personal care and supplements. I love how local and sometimes more niche brands can be found here. One of my fave depts to browse is the Unpacked section, which has eco friendly housewares and evening gardening supplies. A true one stop shop !

Love this place... Fresh and organic produce, wide selection of food produce and household goods, very friendly staff. The best thing is that it's a coop, so owned by the employees who work there. You can tell the people are happy to be working there by the way they interact with customers. Prices are very decent given that it's all organic and responsibly sourced. They recently did big renovation works, and it looks so much cleaner and spacious, now has a larger selection of to-go foods and sandwiches. My go-to grocery store in Toronto... even if I need to travel 30min to get to!

In my opinion Big Carrot offers the best selection of ORGANIC and in the city. Every produce item smells and tastes amazing!!! Big Carrot carries delicious Fred's Bread in its bakery and Cumbrae Farms meats... Selection of packaged foods is amazing, fresh vegan foods bar has quite a few mouth watering selections and natural soaps, shampoos and personal hygiene items section is full of natural hygiene items and hand creams. Most of the staffers are nice, helpful and friendly. WARNING Big Carrot DOES NOT participate in the scanning code of practice - do not be a VICTIM - check the price of EACH item that you are being charged for WARNING I was charged ALMOST DOUBLE today for an item that was advertised as being on sale !!! After I caught the cashier red handed she did not even apologize - that is NOT good customer service - I am a fan of Big Carrot for the past 20 years and being treated this way left me upset I will see what happens on my next visit but from now on I will be VIGILANT! I love this store! I used to go often when I lived closer, but stopped when I moved further away. Happened to be looking for a specific product that I couldn't find elsewhere, and eventually found it at The Big Carrot. Am happy to have rediscovered it again - forgot how many great products are available and the excellent service. The bath/body section has an amazing selection of natural products. Will be making the drive to visit regularly now!
